Winning at the Olympics of Magic

I’m just back from FISM 2025, which this year was held in Turin, Italy. FISM is held every three years and is the highest level at which you can compete for recognition amongst your peers of fellow magicians.

This year, for the first time in FISM’s long history, they recognised street magic as a display category. If they hold another street contest in three years in Busan in South Korea, then it can become a permanent part of the FISM competitions.

I was so happy to be in Turin with many old friends and some new ones. I finally got to meet the legend that is Eric Evans. He won first prize, and we all hoped he would. He is an awesome magician and street performer who deserves the recognition.

Rather unexpectedly, I’ve brought a new little friend home too.

I placed third out of the final twelve contestants that had been selected from twenty nine that were invited to attend the competition. Over 100 applicants had applied to compete. Eric Evans won first place and The Charming Jay came second. Both outstanding performers with great shows.

I plan to write a longer piece on everything that happened at FISM and my journey to get there as a performer, but now the Edinburgh Fringe is about to begin and I have 28 days of back to back shows to prepare for. See you on The Royal Mile!
